All sites function as a command station throughout
the region. Emergency physicians provide on-line
medical communication and pre-hospital intervention
through the paramedics in the field. Training as
a resident will lead to certification as a base
station medical command physician.
A special needs
outpatient center of The Children’s
Hospital of Philadelphia, inner city network clinics
and the occupational medicine all refer to the
emergency department for their emergency care needs.
Residents also participate as part of the aeromedical
team, both in direct patient care and as a medical
command physician with Lehigh Valley Hospital and
Health Network's University MedEvac helicopter.
MedEvac serves 16 Pennsylvania and New Jersey counties,
making more than 1,400 flights a year.
