Thank you for your interest in the Emergency
Medicine Fellowship at Lehigh Valley
Hospital – Muhlenberg. Our one-year
program is dedicated to training the
participant in all aspects of EMS delivery
to the community and preparing them for
a leadership position in this area. At
the conclusion of the program the Fellow
will be eligible to sit for a Certificate
of Added Qualification exam in EMS as
offered by the American College of Osteopathic
Emergency Physicians.
The program is based out of one
of three facilities that are part
the Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health
Network which operates the regions
first and busiest Level I Trauma
Centers. It is serviced by five MedEvac
helicopters that perform over 3,000
flights per year with 80% of those
calls being for on-scene medical
care. The trauma center sees over
4,000 patients a year. The hospitals
are also serviced by multiple regional
ground EMS services whose medical
directors are faculty members within
the EMS Fellowship Program.
We are also associated with the
George
E. Moerkirk Emergency Medicine Institute.
This unique training facility provides
education for over 10,000 students
a year. It is home to a Paramedic
Training school and a human patient
simulator lab. It also provides training
in numerous courses from BLS to Bioterrorism.
Many of the faculty members are instructors
at this regional training center
that has proven itself as a leader
in EMS education.
We feel that our program is structured
to not only allow the Fellow to learn
the basics, but to also tailor the
program to their own individual interests.
Whether that pursuit is tactical
EMS, bioterrorism preparedness, EMS
research or management and oversight
of aeromedical transports, this program
can provide you the skills to succeed.
We hope that you will visit us to
explore this exciting opportunity.
