Dr. Richard MacKenzie, MD
Chair, Department of Emergency Medicine

The Department of Emergency Medicine is focused on providing diverse educational experience for our osteopathic emergency medicine residents leading to board certification.  Each resident will have ample opportunity to develop clinical skills through formal education and direct patient care with an emergency medicine team that cares for over 104,000 patients each year.

The hospital network has over 800 beds in operation and the educational experience is broadened by an aeromedical transport system that conducts 1,800 flights annually for the region's Level I trauma center with additional pediatric privileges.  Unique experience is also available at the George E. Moerkirk Emergency Medicine Institute that trains 8,700 students annually and uses sophisticated teaching tools that include a human patient simulator.

As part of a teaching network that is affiliated with the Penn State University College of Medicine and Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Lehigh Valley Hospital - Muhlenberg campus has a well organized clinical faculty that is committed to research and providing a diverse, enriching experience that residents need for a successful professional career in Emergency Medicine.

Sincerely,

Richard MacKenzie, MD
Chair, Department of Emergency Medicine
